Ideas to get your child reading!

READING TIP:
Share a book with your child. Do you think the days of reading with your child are behind you? They don’t have to be.
Kids learn how to be good readers from listening to good readers read and think aloud about their reading. Have your child pick out a book that they really want to read. Choose a time every night or once a week to read the book together.
Take turns! You read a chapter and have your child read a chapter.Have a conversation about what you read. Tell your child what you thought about a part of the chapter. Have your child tell you what they thought. Have any predictions or questions? Share those with each other.
If you don’t have time to read chapter books, think about reading a magazine or newspaper together. This short time of reading together helps your child see the importance of reading and helps them to develop into a better reader, too!
